61st globally and 2nd in Aotearoa New Zealand
Times Higher Education (THE) have released this year's Impact Rankings and we are delighted to see the University of Canterbury (UC) ranked 61st globally, placing it among the top 100 universities for Global Impact worldwide, and second in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Out of more than 2,500 participating universites worldwide, UC has climbed 28 places from its previous position - affirming its leadership in research, teaching, and community engagement that drives sustainable development. This is the fourth year UC has been ranked in the top 100 for Global Impact.
The ranking assesses our response to sustainability issues framed within the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
For 2025, UC achieved standout global positions: =14th for Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11); =22nd for Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12); 32nd for Climate Action (SDG 13); and 31st for Life Below Water (SDG 14).
For 2025, UC is now the top-ranked university in Aotearoa New Zealand for three SDGs:
SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
SDG 14: Life Below Water
